High borosilicate glass and regular tempered glass are two most widely used materials for kitchen glassware, and both are commonly processed into glass lid for all kinds of cookware. Many home cooks cannot distinguish the performance gap between a high borosilicate glass lid and a regular tempered glass lid, and often misuse the glass lid in unsuitable scenarios, which reduces the service life of the glass lid and even causes hidden safety hazards.

A regular tempered glass lid is produced through physical tempering process, which greatly improves the mechanical strength of the glass. The tempered glass lid has excellent impact resistance, and it is not easy to crack under daily collision and normal wiping. It can stably bear continuous high-temperature steaming and high-temperature dishwasher washing, so the tempered glass lid is perfectly suitable for daily use with steamers, stockpots and dishwashers. However, the tempered glass lid has limited tolerance to drastic temperature changes. Pouring cold water onto a hot tempered glass lid, or putting a chilled glass lid directly into boiling water, may trigger instant shattering of the glass lid due to uneven internal stress.

A high borosilicate glass lid stands out for its superior thermal stability. It can withstand a much wider temperature difference range, and will not crack even when taken out of the refrigerator and heated directly on a stovetop. This type of glass lid fits better for oven baking, open-fire heating and other scenarios with sharp temperature shifts. But compared with the tempered glass lid, the high borosilicate glass lid has weaker impact resistance, requiring more careful daily maintenance.

For daily steaming, stewing and routine dishwasher cleaning, a regular tempered glass lid is cost-effective and durable enough. For cooking scenes with frequent temperature changes, a high borosilicate glass lid is a safer option. Choosing the matching glass lid according to actual cooking demands can maximize the service life and safety performance of the glass lid.
