Safety comes first when buying a glass lid for a multi-functional electric steamer. You also need to think about size, materials, and performance. Here are the main points to look for, based on the latest national standard (GB 4806.5-2023) and industry guidelines.

1. Safety & Rules: Look for the Right Standards

Glass lids touch food, so they must meet national safety standards. When buying, check if the product meets the standards below and ask the supplier for test reports.

  • Food Safety Standard (Key): Must meet GB 4806.5-2023 "Glass Materials and Products for Food Contact." Pay attention to heavy metal limits: lead ≤ 0.8 mg/L, cadmium ≤ 0.07 mg/L, to avoid health risks from long-term use.

  • Product Standard (Recommended): Should meet the industry standard T/CNAGI 004-2023 "Tempered Glass Lids for Cookware," which covers thermal shock resistance, how it breaks, and other details.

  • Required Mark: Check for the "3C" mark, a basic safety certification needed to sell products in China.

2. Performance & Safety

Electric steamers get hot and build up pressure inside, so how the glass lid performs matters a lot for safety.

  • Heat Shock Resistance: This is a key safety feature. The lid should handle a sudden temperature change of at least 120°C (like going from 200°C heat to 20°C water) without cracking after three rounds of testing. Good tempered glass can usually handle up to 400°C.

  • Impact Resistance: The lid should not break easily from small bumps or drops. A good product can take a 104g steel ball dropped from 1.2 meters high.

  • How It Breaks: If it does break, tempered glass should shatter into small, dull pieces with no sharp edges (at least 40 pieces in a 50mm × 50mm area), so it won't cut anyone.

  • Thickness & Flatness: The thickness should be even, with a difference of no more than 0.2mm. The edge should be flat, not bent like a saddle, to make sure it seals well.

3. Materials & Details

Besides safety, how long the lid lasts and how easy it is to use depends on the materials and how it's made.

  • Material: Must be tempered glass. Don't use regular glass (not heat-resistant enough) or cheap plastic (gets brittle over time).

  • Seal Ring: Go for a lid with a food-grade silicone seal ring. It holds steam in, stops leaks, and keeps the glass from hitting the pot directly.

  • Edge & Handle:

    • Stainless Steel Edge: Should fit the glass tightly, with no rough spots or gaps.

    • Handle: Should be made of heat-resistant material and fastened securely (a screw that doesn't come loose over time is a plus).

  • Look It Over: The glass should be clear, with no rainbow-like shine (that means uneven stress), and no bubbles, scratches, or cracks on the surface.

4. Size & Fit

  • Measure Carefully: Before buying, check the inner diameter of your electric steamer. Most home steamer lids are between 23cm and 35cm wide. If you're buying for a specific model (like Supor ZN26YK18), make sure the lid is the right 26cm size.

  • Shape: Steamer lids usually have a higher rim to help steam collect and move around.

5. Things to Watch Out For

  • No Sudden Temperature Changes: Don't rinse a hot glass lid with cold water right after using it—that's the most common reason they break.

  • Ask for Reports: If you're buying in bulk, ask the factory for third-party test reports for GB 4806.5 and T/CNAGI 004.

  • Check Packaging: Make sure the shipping box meets GB/T 6543 (cardboard box standards), so the lid doesn't get damaged during shipping.

Quick Checklist:

  • Certification: Does it have a GB 4806.5 report and a 3C mark?

  • Performance: Is it tempered glass? Can it handle a 120°C temperature change?

  • Quality: Is the thickness even? Is the edge smooth? Does the silicone ring fit tight?

  • Fit: Does the size match your steamer exactly?

There are plenty of manufacturers out there that meet these standards. Yinghuade, for example, makes glass lids with solid safety certifications and good craftsmanship—worth checking out. When you're buying, just go down this list, pick a supplier with test reports and stable quality control, and you should be in good shape.
